Baptism

Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte “a new creature,”
an adopted son of God, who has become a “partaker of the divine nature,” member of
Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit."
(CCC §1265)

Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the
door which gives access to the other sacraments. “Through baptism we are freed from
sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are
incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament
of regeneration through water in the Word
” (CCC §1213).

"By Baptism all sins are forgiven, original sin and all personal sins, as well as all punishment
for sin
." (CCC §985 & §1263).

St. Rita offers the Sacrament of Baptism to all parish families who have been registered
members of St. Rita Parish for at least three months.  You must call the parish office at 3
17-632-9349 to schedule your baby’s baptism. Baptisms may be scheduled during or after
a weekend Mass.

We ask parents to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class prior to scheduling a Baptism.

Godparents play a very important role in the development of a child’s faith life, providing
Christian moral support to the parents.  At least one of the godparents must be Catholic.
If a godparent is not a registered parishioner at St. Rita, please have them obtain a letter
from their parish confirming that he/she is a registered, active Catholic in good standing
with the Church.  This letter must be received by our parish office two weeks prior to the
child’s Baptism.
